Julia Mekkes

Lawyer

You know what they say: Give a girl the right outfit and she can conquer the world. Not that the pretty Julia really needs it. She is the true definition of beauty and the brains with her lawyer career and stunning appearance. Can it get any sexier than that? Probably not.

What’s the best piece of advice your mom is giving you?
Hard work pays off and always make sure you stay independent. My parents are always there for me of course, but they learned me from the start that it’s important to stand on your own two feet. My first job was therefore in the furniture store of my parents.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Run to the shower asap to take a refreshing shower. I always have some difficulties with waking up and I’m a true snoozer. To spare some time I always make sure that my outfit is ready and take my breakfast with me in the car.

What is the best adventure you have ever been on?|
An exchange to Spain, Sevilla in high school. I ended up in a host family and joined the family. It was incredibly instructive and fun to go to college in another country.

You’re secret beauty trick..
It might sound like a cliché, but: Less is more! I don’t think I’m more beautiful with a lot of make-up on.

When was the last time you were really proud of yourself?
Last month when I had my very first case at the district court as a lawyer. Then I realized why I study so hard and realized it was all worth it. As a 25-year old, it was a pretty good feeling that I was defending my client in court.

I feel most confident when I..
Am wearing a good outfit! This and a good hair day is key for confidence. When I have a day off I have more time to do my hair than on working days.

To try before you die?
It’s not the most exciting thing, but it’s something that’s been on my bucket list for a while now. I would love to travel through Asia. I’m half Indonesian and I’ve never been there. Which is such a shame.

Best compliment someone ever gave you?
People give me compliments about my lips. Personality-wise, they say I’m really sweet. Which I find really sweet of them of course!

Describe the perfect Sunday.
For my work I wear decent clothes, so for my weekends I love a jogging suit. Then hop on the scooter, lunch somewhere and end the day on the couch with my boyfriend.

Where do you see yourself in ten years from now?
I hope to have a successful career and definitely kids, two or three. And of course the most important thing: that my family remains healthy.

What’s the biggest career lesson you’ve learned so far?
I did VWO first, then the bachelor of Law, then the Master Criminal Law and now I do the Vocational Training for Lawyers. I wanted to become a lawyer, I worked hard for this and I still study hard for that. It’s not easy to get a spot on the Vocational Training, but I succeeded. If you really want to achieve or become something, just believe you can!
